| Build |
| The first impression was a bit disappointing because it feels a bit "cheap". But at a second
look you notice that everything fits really good, no play and no rattle in the focus and zoom mechanism.
So mechanical I would put it in the same class as the FA50 1.7. |
| Optical |
| For a 24-90 zoom lens I find it absolute great. It is sharp and contrasty. While it is not as
sharp as a FA50 1.7 or FA100 2.8 it is as contrasty as these prime lenses. It is really another league than
my two other zoom lenses, the Sigma28-105 and the FA100-300. Another big plus is the low distortion.
At 24mm there is a very slight barrel distortion which disappear around 35mm while at 90mm the lens has little pincushion distortion.
The vignetting is also quite low and is only visible wide open at the very short and long end of the zoom. |
| Handling |
| The zoom ring works smooth and easy but the lens almost doubles the length when zooming to 90mm.
When tilt downwards the lens sometimes zooms out by itself. The Manual focus feel is not so good, the focus ring is quite
thin and has no structure, it works really easy and you have to turn it only a small way to get from 0.5m to infinity.
Auto focus is quite fast. The lens hood has a snap mechanism which works easy and fast and you can mount it in reverse
when not used.

| Compatibility |
| As you would expect I have not had any compatibility problems with the two cameras I've used it on so far. A Pentax MZ-5 and a Pentax MX. |
| Conclusion |
| This is the lens for the "one lens" travel combination. Small and light and with good optical
qualities. |
