Build
The outer shell is out of plastic but with the soft structured pads it feels better than the low cost MZ cameras. Despite the light weight the mirror-box/film plane is a composite with metal and the lens mount is also out of metal.
Handling
A bit bigger than the MX, the MZ-5 is still a very small SLR. Some will say that it is to small but I hold every camera with the right hand at the shutter and the left hand under the lens at the aperture ring and than the MZ-5 fits really good. When size and weight is not critical I put the battery grip under the MZ-5 and this just yields an even better grip. I really like the layout of the MZ-5 but two important functions, DOF and AE lock, are missed. These functions can be found at the successor, the MZ-5n. There are work around's for both functions but this is very uncomfortable. The Information in the viewfinder is complete with aperture, shutter speed, focus and flash info and exposure meter up to +/-3EV. You can see them good apart in bright sun light and they reach a bit into the right viewfinder which is sometimes a handicap.
Compatibility
As you would expect I have not had any compatibility problems with the lenses I have.
Conclusion
I really like the MZ-5 but the successor the MZ-5n or MZ-3 added the few missing functions.
